UPDATE: Mardi Gras parade at Elmcroft at Rivershire in Conroe

The partying didn't stop at Elmcroft at Rivershire in Conroe. After the party (see attached story) came the parade. Everything that rolled was decorated and entered in the parade. To see the imaginative parade floats, see the attached photo gallery and view the video included.

ORIGINAL STORY:

CONROE, Texas - You didn’t have to go far in Conroe to find a Mardi Gras party on “Fat Tuesday.” In fact, some residents didn’t have to leave home, the party came to them. Elmcroft of Rivershire had all the essential party favors for the event...beads, masks, costumes, everything but a parade; that will occur on Friday for the benefit of those who make Elmcroft their home.

Elmcroft of Rivershire is a senior living community providing assisted living and memory care. Conveniently at 450 North Rivershire, located just a couple of blocks west of I-45N in Conroe, and south of the Gladstell exit (behind Buckalew Chevrolet). In addition to transportation, housekeeping, linen service, and paid utilities, a 24-hour emergency call system is provided.

Spacious grounds, lounges, and numerous activity rooms, allow the residents plenty of space and opportunity for socialization like the Mardi Gras party, and no party would be complete without ‘live’ entertainment. Back by popular demand was the incomparable Jim Connors who performs no less than 40 shows a month, in addition to providing the organ entertainment at the Houston Astros games. Singing and playing a litany of popular standards that span as many decades as the age of the residents at Elmcroft, the most popular in the sing-along was “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” Connors knows it well.

Elmcroft’s Healthy Lifestyles Director, Shanda Donald, is credited with planning the event, and no one has more fun than Shanda and the rest of the staff.

“We need an occasional party too,” said Community Relations Director, Annette Neyman. “We enjoy these events as much as our residents.”

Cake is king at Mardi Gras celebrations, and the King Cake served at the party was compliments of Bristol Hospice, delivered personally by Executive Director, Mona Maples, RN,BBA. Dessert, party favors, and great music; who could want for anything more?

Wasn’t that one of the melodies sung by Connors? There were so many; some by request.

“He’s one of our residents’ favorite entertainers,” said Donald. “We just love him.”

In closing Connors sang “Young at Heart.” Very appropriate. You’re never too old for a party.
