MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- At the Houston Texans home opener versus the Chicago Bears this past Sunday, two Montgomery County World War II Veterans were honored. Robert Putnam, 106, and George Waters, 103, were both on the field in the 3rd Quarter flanked by Texans Cheerleaders, as the announcer informed the fans of their service during World War II. Both men were born on June 12th, just three years apart. They attend the Lone Star Honor Flight Veterans Group (105) in Conroe each Wednesday to fellowship with Veterans of all periods of service and their wars, and were visited by Texans cheerleaders this past summer for their birthday celebration.

Both men served in the European Theater during WWII. Mr. Putnam was in the US Navy serving on Destroyers in the Mediterranean Sea. He loves to sing and leads the 105 Group with ‘God Bless America,’ and ‘Our National Anthem’ each week. Mr. Waters was a ball turret gunner on a B-17 serving in Italy, and was shot down over Germany on what was supposed to be his final mission. He was captured, and was a prisoner of war in a German prison camp for 15 months. Both men came home to the United States following the conflict, starting their careers and families.

Montgomery County is proud to have these two fine men who fought for Our Freedom in uncertain times. Congratulations to you Mr. Waters and Mr. Putnam.
