Local Authorities Assist Man During Mental Crisis in Willis

WILLIS, TX -- On February 7, 2021 at approximately 8:04 p.m. Willis Police Department responded to a welfare check at IH 45 N and Calvary Rd. They arrived to find a male was sitting on the ledge of the overpass, stating that he was thinking about jumping off. Willis Police Department requested a Precinct 1 Mental Health (MH) / Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) deputy to respond to the scene to assist with this call. The MH / CIT deputy was able to negotiate with the individual in crisis and with the assistance of other law enforcement officers were successful in bringing this situation to a positive conclusion.


Texas Department of Public Safety, the Sheriff’s Office, Panorama PD, Conroe Police Department and North Montgomery County Fire Department and private wreckers companies assisted in shutting down the freeway while the Precinct 1 MH / CIT deputy negotiated with the subject.


The male was transported without incident to the Conroe Emergency Room by Montgomery County Hospital District medical clearance and psychological evaluation.
