FOOTBALL: Conroe defeats MacArthur 27-12, district next

CONROE, Texas -- After a slow start against a winless Aldine MacArthur squad the Conroe Tigers scored 27 unanswered points to move their record to 3 and 1 Friday night.
“We started slow but found it at the end,” said DeMarcus Jackson, junior wide receiver for the Tigers. “Staying focused for next week (against The Woodlands) is what we have to do next.”
The Tigers defense came up big early after spotting the Generals an early lead of 12-0 early in the first quarter.
“Defense carried us tonight after they got on top early,” said head coach Robert Walker. MacArthur scored 2 quick touchdowns after an early Conroe turnover and led 12-0 midway through the 1st quarter.
“As they say, defense travels and we played well tonight.”
The Tigers start district competition next week against perennial power The Woodlands who beat La Porte 21-0 Friday night and mirrors the Tigers record of 2-1. The Highlanders lost to #2 state ranked Katy last week 14-7 at Katy.
Next week's game will be played at Woodforest Stadium and is the opening district game for both teams.
Game time kickoff is scheduled for 7pm and the game will be broadcast on-demand on Woodlands Online.
