MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- Calling all fastpitch softball fanatics, the Baylor Lady Bears are coming to town. The 75-acre, state-of-the-art Scrap Yard Sports complex located 2 miles east of I-45 across from Woodlands Mall will host a “morning of” team-building exercises for the Baylor Softball team on January 25. The public is invited to come cheer on the Lady Bears and tour the Scrap Yard Sports facilities.

Starting at 8:30 a.m., Baylor Head Coach Glenn Moore and the Baylor softball team will hold a free clinic for youth softball players from ages 8 to 12 years old, followed by a team practice at 10 a.m., and an intrasquad scrimmage from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Following the scrimmage, team members will take a few moments to autograph materials for those in attendance, before returning to campus.

"We are excited to bring Baylor Softball to one of the finest new facilities in the nation, Scrap Yard Sports," said Baylor Head Coach Glenn Moore. "This preseason skills clinic and intrasquad scrimmage will give softball fans an opportunity to have an early look at the 2014 Lady Bears."

The Baylor softball team features Whitney Canion, an All-American and member of Team USA, on the mound, as well as many former Houston-area prep standouts.

"The Baylor program has been in the College World Series twice in the last five years," said Scrap Yard Sports' Connie May, Director of Operations and Finance. "They're in the top-25 rankings consistently. To have them at our facilities, using the unique surface we've created, is an honor for us."

Space is limited for the free clinic; email Scrap Yard Sports to make a reservation at conniem@scrapyardsports.com

Scrap Yard Sports is a newly opened multisport complex that will eventually feature 17 baseball and softball fields, as well as several multipurpose fields that can be used for football, lacrosse and other sports. The fields feature a custom artificial turf design that eliminates the excessive heat and provides a more realistic playing surface for fastpitch softball and baseball.
