MCABW to expand board of directors

The Montgomery County Association of Business Women (MCABW) discussed the possibility of expanding its board within the next year, by as many as two additional directors. The topic was announced by Carol Gooch, the MCABW Executive Director, at the Team Leaders’ meeting held at Incredible Pizza in Conroe, Tuesday, March 19. The item will be placed on the agenda for the next board meeting to be held the first Tuesday in April.

The current board consists of five members which include the founder and Executive Director, Carol Gooch who oversees the Magazine, Education and Special Events teams; charter board member, Stephanne Laviolette, the Executive Secretary who oversees the Membership and Leadership teams; Treasurer, Gloria Copeland, who oversees both the Diplomat and Scholarship teams; Bree Kidd, the MCABW’s official photographer who provides the organization’s photographs for it’s online and hardcopy magazine, news articles, and blogs; and Janet Werner, who overseas the publicity which includes news articles, blogs, Facebook, and the syndication of the social media.

This will be the first expansion of the MCABW board since the organization was founded by Carol Gooch, seven and a half years ago.

“The new board members will be selected from the most active members, who will more than likely be team leaders,” said Gooch. “The board has discussed this at past board meetings, and will be coming closer to finalizing it at an upcoming board meeting.”

In previous board meetings the board members have discussed that new board members would be members who have embraced the MCABW motto of ‘Women Helping Women,’ and who have demonstrated this by mentoring members and promoting the MCABW. Members have the opportunity to do so at the organizations regularly scheduled events like their monthly luncheon meetings which are held at Incredible Pizza in Conroe, on Loop 336 South at I-45 N. The March monthly meeting will be held March 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The monthly luncheon consists of networking, announcements, and door prizes. Every other month there is a guest speaker on a topic of interest to the members.

Other events include an evening networking mixer held the second Thursday each month at different members’ locations, and an educational seminar held the first Tuesday of each month. The locations for these events can be obtained from the MCABW website at www.mcabw.org
