Meating Place BBQ Opens in Montgomery
MONTGOMERY, TX -- A new business has opened in Montgomery, The Meating Place BBQ, which soft opened on February 13th, taking over the property footprint that Heritage House and The Grove restaurants previously occupied, across the street from the Lone Star Cowboy Church. TMP BBQ is located at 22016 Eva Street, and it’s the restaurant’s second time in Montgomery, previously opening its doors in Fall 2019, where the current Slish of Amish store is located. Unfortunately, with the havoc of the pandemic and the lack of seating and customer traffic, the conditions caused the store to close. Restaurant owners Buddy and Rachel Adams, for some time have been looking for opportunities to return to the Montgomery area, and earlier this year, together with the new owners of the overall property, carved out a deal that led to last Thursday’s opening.
The new location has ample room for seating, outdoor activities, and several small buildings being readied for lease later this year. The Meating Place will be smoking meats at the Montgomery restaurant in the next few weeks just as they do with their Magnolia pithouse. The restaurant is nicely decorated as compared to The Grove, which had a more minimalist style.
“If I put something on the left part of a shelf, Rachel would move it to the right,” said The Meating Place co-owner Buddy Adams (no relation to the Tennessee Titans deceased owners Bud Adams), who is not phased by the judgement paid on his decoration abilities by his wife. “Rachel says it now feels like your Grandma’s House.”
The Adams’ have parked their famous Bull & Studebaker out in front of the stores, making no bones about their business. And judging from the size of the bull, they are serious about their meaty menu. The restaurant started in Pinehurst in 2017, in southwest Montgomery County, and moved to Magnolia five years ago.
“BBQ is our passion, and we love it,” said Buddy emotionally. “We came back to Montgomery, and have found a place with some true Montgomery heritage.”
The restaurant was officially welcomed back to the City by Montgomery Mayor Sara Countryman in a Valentine’s Day Facebook post, having dropped by to see The Adamses on Thursday afternoon. The restaurant has their own patented 360 Smoker Pit that smokes to perfection their delicious brisket, ribs, pork, turkey and more.
The Adams’ have sons that live nearby, and have always been partial to Montgomery because of its great family vibe and community atmosphere headlined by the city’s historic district, as well as the events that attract so many to the area. The couple have a great track record when it comes to assisting first responders during heavy weather events. They’ve fed first responders during winter storms, flooding events, hurricanes, and tornados; and have been recognized by Montgomery County Commissioners Court in 2021 for their outstanding service to the community when the times get tough.
The restaurant is still looking to fill some positions, so if you are interested, email Rachel at: rachel@meatingplacebbq.com
