Conroe Art League has a full palette of classes for the new year

CONROE, TX – Start something new in the new year with some art lessons. Conroe Art League has a full slate of classes for you to consider. They offer instruction in watercolor, oil, acrylic, charcoal/graphite, ink, and clay. You can focus on learning and improving your work, or set out on an inner journey.

Classes include:

  • Acrylics Basics – All levels, including absolute beginner, are welcome. Instagram sensation Sarah Johnston - @brellian_official - will teach you the basics and give everyone individualized help. Wednesdays 6 - 8 p.m.
  • Oil with Gary Hernandez – Gary is skilled in teaching beginners, and also in working with advanced students. You will learn all facets of art via oil painting. Tuesdays 1- 3 p.m.
  • Watercolor with Gary Hernandez – Students of all levels are working with this challenging and beautiful medium. Mondays 10 a.m. - noon.
  • Ceramics at Carol Berger’s studio – all levels of skill are welcome in this class. Wheel and kiln available. Choose the time on Tuesday that works for you (9 a.m.- noon, 1 - 4 p.m. or 6 - 9 p.m.)
  • Sculpting with Donna Rodgers – Learn the basics of clay sculpting with tools on Tuesdays from 6 - 8:30 p.m. and work at your own pace. Donna can provide ideas and guidance or you can choose your own project.
  • Drawing with Gary Hernandez – Whether you’ve never drawn anything or are proficient in the art, Gary can help you progress in this essential skill by using many different tools.Tuesdays 10 a.m. - noon.
  • Watercolor with Cynthia Reed – Cynthia is helping her students with personal expression using watercolor on Thursdays 1 - 3:30 p.m.
  • Oil Painting with Juan Cantavella – Juan gives personal attention to all levels of oil painting students on Saturday mornings, 9 a.m. - noon.
  • Beginning Portraits – Juan Cantavella teaches proportion, value, shapes in the study of portraiture. Second, Fourth, and Fifth Fridays 9 -11a.m.
  • Homeschool Art Classes – Rebekah Billings introduces children to the basic concepts of art, employing a variety of media and fun projects guaranteed to engage students and encourage their creativity.

For nurturing your creativity and integrating mind, body, and soul:

  • The Artist’s Way – Study this life-changing book with Cynthia Reed Thursdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. January 18 through April 11. Discover how to unlock and nurture your creative self.
  • Neurographic Art with Jeff Lung – Designed for first responders, military personnel, veterans, and adults who have experienced trauma. In this 10-week class participants will explore their subconscious and unlock creativity while navigating the calming practice of Neurographic art. No experience is necessary. There is no charge for students and materials will be provided. Thursdays, February 15 through April 18, from 6 - 8 p.m.

They also offer non-instructive groups if you want some company while you create:

  • Figure Drawing with a Live Model – First and Third Wednesdays 10 a.m. -1 p.m.
  • Portrait Painting with a Live Model – First and Third Fridays 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
  • Open Studio – All mediums welcome in this group coordinated by Kathy Martin on the Second and Fourth Fridays from 1 - 4 p.m.
  • Plein Air Painting – Use your favorite medium and join us as we paint in various locations around the county on the first Tuesday of each month.
