CONROE, Texas -- Montgomery County United Way’s Women’s Leadership Council is offering its scholarship program to young mothers who wish to seek higher education. The scholarships pay for accredited daycare to help high school graduates defray the costs of taking care of their children while they attend college or technical school.

The program has awarded eleven scholarships since the program began in 2009. Debra Dyason, MCUW’s Director of Initiatives said, “Montgomery County United Way’s Women’s Leadership Council is deeply committed to supporting the growth of young women through education. This scholarship is immensely important because it lessens one major burden that may prevent young mothers from pursuing education.”

Applicants must be a resident of Montgomery County, have a high school diploma or equivalent and are between the ages of 16 – 22, be the mother of a child under the age of five, and must have been accepted into a post-secondary education program. If a scholarship is awarded, applicant will be required to maintain a 2.0 grade point average or higher and enroll their children in a licensed child care program.

Scholarship applications are available on the website click on “Women’s Leadership.” Deadline for applications is March 23rd, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. For more information, please contact Debra Dyason at 936-760-4179, ext. 267 or by email.
