CONROE, TX -- Tensions are running high at Conroe High School following a KHOU report on January 29th, in which a Spanish teacher at the school allegedly asked a student about her immigration status during a class. The teacher also was said to have questioned another student about their status, and may have been disrespectful of the student during the incident. The mother of one of the girls, Susana Maya, contacted KHOU about the episode, stating that her daughter is an American citizen, and that the teachers actions were inappropriate. Conroe ISD said they were aware of the allegation, and are in the midst of investigating the incident.

One Willis man, Lance Waldo, a retired corrections officer, posted on Facebook about the local CBS affiliates report, stating that illegal immigrants should not be entitled to a free education. Waldo noted that the talk between the teacher and students should have been done in the form of a discussion on current events, and not as a personal vendetta by the teacher.

“I do not know the context of this conversation,” said Waldo about the incident. “The student's legal status should not be used to chastise, embarrass, or hurt the student. I could find myself appalled at this teacher's actions depending on the details.”

Conroe High consists of a majority Hispanic student body, so the topic of immigration is relevant to a number of students whose immigration status may not be so clearly defined.

Another issue that has also affected Conroe High, was posted by Wayne Grant, on the ‘I Love Conroe!’ Facebook Group, on January 30th, where he displayed what appeared to be red cards being allegedly given out by Conroe High School teachers secretly to students who they believe are illegal aliens. The writing on the cards, given in both English and Spanish gives instructions on how to interact with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Agents should a student or a family member be approached.

“This is not an assignment or after school program,” said Wayne Grant. “Teachers are secretly doing this.”

Grant also noted that he believes the teachers actions are inappropriate and possibly illegal, and encouraged parents to contact the Conroe ISD School Board and Superintendent. The issue has still yet to be confirmed by CISD officials.

President Donald Trump’s Border Czar Tom Homan said on January 26th that schools are in play when it comes to immigration raids to apprehend illegal immigrants.

ABC’s Martha Raddatz asked on her Sunday show, “What criminals are hiding in schools?” Inquiring if middle schools or elementary schools were targets.

“How many MS-13 members are aged 14 to 17?” Noted Homan unapologetically. “Many of them.”

Homan also said that ICE will expand eventually to focus on anyone in the U.S. illegally.

“If you’re in the country illegally, you’re on the table,” said Homan. “It’s not okay to defy the laws of this country.”

Homan is well known for quoting ‘Title 8 United States Code 1324 (iii),’ which says it's a felony if you knowingly harbor and conceal an illegal alien from immigration authorities, or impede a federal law enforcement officer, in their line of duty.

A ‘Conroe Protest,’ rally to support the illegal immigrants is being planned for Saturday, February 1st, at 302 N. Frazier in Conroe, at the intersection with SH-105. It’s being advertised as a ‘peaceful protest made in Downtown Conroe for our family and friends who aren’t able to have a voice in hard times like these.'
