CONROE, TX -- This week’s Veteran is Marcey Phillips, who served in the Texas Army National Guard from 2002-2010. Her duty stations include Missouri, Georgia, and Food Hood in Texas. She was deployed to Iraq in 2005, where she served as a Communication Specialist, and she was like any other soldier, and took her chances with no guarantee of safety, and Phillips was subjected to the same pitfalls and hazards that her male counterparts dealt with on a daily basis. Marcey was located near Tikrit, Iraq, where numerous soldiers were killed, and the issues related to her own survival, and thoughts for the welfare of her child back home. Those factors that can easily manifest themselves into the conditions that have brought about her need for a service dog. Phillips’ dog Beignet, a black Labrador, has been her trusted companion since 2019; and assists her with her PTSD issues such as night terror mitigation. After her combat tour, Phillips got involved with the VFW and has been for many years. Marcey is the VFW Post 4709 Post Commander in Conroe, and also serves as the District 17 Commander, at the state level. Good Luck Marcey, and Congratulations on being ‘Veteran of the Week’.
