Canvass Manager

Under general supervision of the Marketing and Communications Director, per forms a variety of managerial training duties relating to Proximity functions and programs including learning Proximity methodology and assignments, recruitment, educating and training of new hires and departmental reports in preparation to lead a Proximity team. Setting the example for the department’s efforts and decorum. Meeting or exceeding results within budget and policy guidelines. Both Proximity Manager's will partner together to deliver optimal results.

Activities and Priorities: (60% in the field - 40% in the office)
Ensure Team Leaders:
a. Coach & stimulate Canvassers to generate leads using the canvassing methodology and policies without compromise.
b. Invest at least one hour weekly with every canvasser (50% demonstration – 50% observation) regardless of the Canvasser’s performance (more time with newer and less productive personnel) to ensure they’re following scripts and policy.
c. Conduct at least one 3-on-1 session with every Canvasser every week.
d. Provide guidance, discipline and consequences to anyone exhibiting poor habits, poor attitude/attendance, inappropriate dress or unacceptable results including company required documentation.
e. Place any Canvasser that doesn’t meet activity, behavioral or results standards on probation or termination without exception per written company policies.
f. Scout every canvass territory the day before (unless it’s a “backtrack”).
g. Create a master map daily showing each Canvasser’s route (including drop-off and retrieval), a personal map for each canvasser with directions and printed names and addresses for each home in the canvass.
h. Stimulate their teams before the beginning of every shift with a positive, action-oriented agenda focusing on current projects, successes, strategy, competitive differentiation, selling skills, etc.
i. Inform Canvassers about the age of the neighborhood, type construction, home values, average age and average monthly energy bills.
j. Grade each rep monthly using the Report Card and obtaining feedback.
k. Review every Lead Sheet every day to ensure database accuracy, DNC compliance, D&D data, all contact information, etc.
l. Listen to all recorded calls daily for Canvassers employed less than two weeks or, when their issue rate is under 50%/demo rate under 40%, every appointment set beyond 72 hours, every failed set – all others when possible.
m. Drive the van within regulations, codes, laws, etc.
n. Complete the Vehicle Log daily; maintain a clean, professional van.
o. Contact you after every shift to discuss results, performance, needs, etc.
p. Adhere to and enforce all policy guidelines.
1. Fulfill forecasts and budgets as required. Ensure every report is completed timely and accurately.
2. Meet privately with each Team Leader DAILY to discuss prioritization and focus especially in regards to personnel. Meet with each weekly to discuss the “why” behind the week, personnel issues, the next week and future success.
3. Ensure recruiting is conducted every week. Stay engaged in the selection process. This includes interviewing candidates for approval until Team Leaders can prove their autonomy. Either way, all selections must be reviewed.
4. Conduct the initial training program for canvassers or ensure it is followed according to the training process.
5. Attend the weekly and monthly Marketing meetings to discuss the previous week’s results, performance and the reasons for it (fact-based and judgment-free).
6. Attend sales department meetings when possible.
7. Review every payroll to keep current with earnings vs. performance.
8. Approve and review and evaluate all incentive programs.
9. Maintain a “street sheet” database including age and design profile, past results and dates worked in conjunction with an up-to-date map system.
10. Inspect the vans, Vehicle & GPS logs, company equipment, samples, tools and marketing materials to ensure they’re up-to-date and consistent with the company’s position.
11. Initiate mystery visits in the field at least once weekly or as needed.
12. Canvass or monitor canvassers for one full shift every two weeks.
13. Protect the integrity and security of the database, company property, and prevent tortuous interference with RbA employees.
14. Work closely with HR to ensure that man-hours are always met. Plan and be versatile enough so that weather, absences and attrition are not obstacles to meeting your objectives.
15. Conduct any and all your Team Leader’s tasks and fulfill their responsibilities when they’re absent or relieved.
16. Develop one leader in training for each team.
17. Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
BS/BA in Business or relevant field, preferred. Technical degree, college degree, or five (5) years’ related work experience required. Two (2) or more years of experience in work related experience in door-to-door managerial role.

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Other Qualifications
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience with operating computers and fluent in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.). Highly organized, detailed, able to multi-task and able to adapt well to changing environment. Reliable, energetic, determined, and a role model as a leader.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
