Local Student Selected To Attend Leadamerica Conference

Autumn Mastin, a student at Northland Christian School, has been selected to attend the 2008 Congressional Student Leadership Conference on Intelligence & National Security at The Catholic University in Washington DC.

The CSLC is a college-accredited invitational only leadership program for academically talented and promising young leaders from across the United States and internationally.

Mastin will join other exceptional high school students with records of academic achievement and extracurricular or community involvement who are invited to participate.

Mastin been accepted into the ROTC program at Oakridge High School. Mastin’s future goals are set very high; She plans to attend college for four years, earning a degree in Music Theory. Afterwards she wishes to join the United States Marine Corps. Following her service, Mastin plans to be a teacher of music theory at a high school or university.

Mastin has been received many honors such as being accepted into the National Honor Society and nationally recognized in speech and debate. Mastin is also is involved in her local community volunteering with the Humane Society, watching over latch-key children in her neighborhood and playing her violin at local nursing homes. Mastin has also partaken in numerous charities along side her mother such as Star of Hope, CASA and Red Cross. Mastin is an accredited violist playing at local places such as The Glass Menagerie, Pie in the Sky, Potbellies and numerous private functions. Mastin has played with the Northland Christian School Orchestra for 8 years and plans to join the orchestra at Oakridge High School.

The CSLC on Intelligence & National Security is a 10-day leadership program in which students get an inside look at our nation’s homeland security and intelligence organizations. In a hands on learning environment, Mastin and fellow students will learn how domestic agencies gather and analyze intelligence and how that information is used in developing defense and national security policy decisions. In a real-world simulation of a national security crisis, students will act as decision makers and use intelligence and analysis gathered from credible sources to formulate long and short-term solutions.
