Assistance League of Mont Co Women of Distinction Honoree - Jane Gehring

Assistance LeagueÒ of Montgomery County is proud to nominate Jane Gehring as its honoree for the 2013 Women of Distinction award.

Each year, the Montgomery County Women’s Council of Organizations comes together at the Women of Distinction Luncheon to honor extraordinary women who do extraordinary things. This year’s luncheon, on May 24, will take place at the Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center.

Due to the philanthropic nature of Montgomery County Women’s Council, candidates are typically selected based on their volunteerism and service to the community. Jane’s service on the Scholarship and Pass It On Philanthropic Committees of Assistance League improves both the present and the future for many Montgomery County residents.

On the Scholarship Committee Jane proposed a Return to Education scholarship for non-traditional students who need further education to improve their employment opportunities. In the past four years, over 20 recipients received scholarships in excess of $18,750. In addition, Jane designed and launched the Assistance League’s ninth philanthropic program, Pass It On, through which unsold Thrift Shop items are distributed to other charitable organizations in the county. In the last seven months alone, the program has served more than 10,000 people throughout Montgomery County.

Assistance League of Montgomery County is a nonprofit organization of volunteers dedicated to improving lives in the community through philanthropic programs. Ten philanthropic programs are supported mainly by the Thrift Shop, located at 126 N. San Jacinto Street in downtown Conroe. Donations are accepted during regular shopping hours, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
