Montgomery County Women's Center names Woman of Distinction for 2012
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- JoAnne Lowry has been chosen by the Montgomery County Women’s Center (MCWC) as a Woman of Distinction for 2012.
Each year, the Montgomery County Women’s Council of Organizations comes together for the Women of Distinction Luncheon to celebrate all the many accomplishments provided by volunteers of local charitable organizations. The goal of the luncheon is to shine a light on a specific volunteer from a local nonprofit agency. Each nonprofit agency votes on one volunteer they feel has gone above and beyond the call of duty for the agency. Most candidates are selected based on their volunteerism and service to the community.
“JoAnne began volunteering at The Woodlands office in 2005 doing administrative jobs and answering the Hotline,” explains Sarah Raleigh, president and CEO of MCWC. “Throughout the years, she has been a driving force within the agency; taking on leadership roles with our ‘Share A-Family’ holiday project for the past four years, and has chaired our WineFest fundraiser. JoAnne has served on the agency’s board of directors and served as the Board President in 2010-2011. Given the breadth and depth of her service and commitment to the Women’s Center, we are proud to honor JoAnne as our chosen volunteer to be recognized by Montgomery County Women’s Council of Organizations during their special luncheon.”
JoAnne Lowy will be honored on behalf of Montgomery County Women’s Center along with several other nonprofits’ volunteers at the 2012 Women of Distinction luncheon on Friday, April 27at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center.
In addition to MCWC, Lowry is further steeped in service to her community as she has also served as a past president of both the Cypress-Woodlands Junior Forum and the Grogan’s Point Residents Association. She is a member of The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion’s “Pavilion Partners” – the official volunteer organization of The Center for the Performing Arts at The Woodlands, and has spent many hours volunteering with The Woodlands United Methodist Church, the Canongate Women’s Golf Association, and her sorority, Chi Omega.
Most notable, Joanne and her husband of 42 years, Randy, were both recognized by Interfaith of the Woodlands as 2012 Service of Excellence Award recipients for Fine Arts at the recent “Five Who Share” luncheon for their contributions through volunteerism. They have been active members of the Pavilion Partners for eleven years, supporting The Pavilion’s educational outreach programs and Partners Fine Arts Scholarships program.
